The Songhai interacted mostly with the European. Mainly Portuguese and Dutch. At is peak, the Songhai city of Timbuktu became a thriving cultural and commercial centre. Arab, Italian, and Jewish merchants all gathered form trade. Because they were so successful hey had may travellers and merchants coming through Songhai all the time. The Songhai Empire was very well know to everyone because of their good reputation and leader. People from all over would come to Songhai, the had many strong, distant relationships with Europe.
